Inter Milan wins the Champions League

An historic day for the Italian giants - and for American soccer fans too.

I spent the day at the U.S. national team's World Cup training camp in Princeton, so I wasn't able to watch the game live. But Inter Milan gave quite a performance in its 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

What a game Diego Milito had. Both goals were tremendous individual efforts. And if you want to explain soccer to a fan of American sports, Milito's performance can help. He looked a bit like LeSean McCoy on the first goal, and a lot like Allen Iverson on the second.

On a less metaphorical level, it's a sign of how far soccer has come in this country that Fox broadcast the game live on its over-the-air network. Even more significantly, Fox sent its own broadcast crew to the Bernabéu for its pregame show. Curt Menefee may be a gridiron football guy, but I thought he did a reasonable job of presenting the basics. He seemed to know when it was his turn and when to let Bruce Arena and Eric Wynalda get into the deep stuff.

I've put together a gallery of some of the best photos from the game, and the subsequent celebrations in both Madrid and Milan. There are also video highlights below - hurry up and watch before the YouTube police take them down.

What did you think of the game, and the broadcast presentation?
