Comedy Central debuts new Web series ‘Delco Proper’
Comedy Central has finally discovered Delaware County, and the result is the new online series Delco Proper, which premiered today. And the result, like Delaware County itself, is nothing short of marvelous.
Comedy Central has finally discovered Delaware County, and the result is the new Web series Delco Proper, which premiered today. And the result, like Delaware County itself, is nothing short of marvelous.
Starring Philly funnymen Tommy Pope (Philly's Phunniest Comic 2011), Tim Butterly, and John McKeever, the show revolves around "three best friends from a blue-collar neighborhood in Philadelphia" who "struggle to avoid trouble and make a name for themselves."
Though Delaware County is not in Philadelphia as Comedy Central's description suggests, the heart and soul of both are prevalent throughout the show. Especially in the accents, attitudes, and overall candor of main characters Izzy, Tommy, and John.
Dubbed "The Funeral," Delco Proper's first episode throws our heroes into a funeral for Kevin, a lacrosse player and member of their high school class. Being Delco though, things get a little awkward, beginning with Izzy threatening to punch fellow classmate Donny Dougherty in the throat "if he comes over here."
As you can imagine, things only fall apart further from there. And from the "friend request sent at funeral" bit to Izzy's constant need to belligerently mock someone, the whole episode is quintessentially Delco — though, maybe through a Trailer Park Boys lens.
And personally, for this Delco native, the next episode can't come soon enough.
