John Oates hates the name ‘Hall & Oates’

John Oates has some harsh words about his own band name: "We have the worst name in rock and roll history."
In an interview with Vanyaland, the prolific songwriter and one half of Hall & Oates griped about the pair's musical moniker claiming, "It's a horrible name. Just be totally objective about it, it sounds like a law firm or a doctor's office or something."
Daryl Hall wasn't big on the surname smash either, according to the interview:
"Daryl made a joke about it when we first got together. He said 'I hate being called by my last name, it reminds me of gym class: Hey Hall.' So we said, we are two individuals working together."
Apparently, the name wasn't a conscious decision, either — "it was just a thing," Oates said.
What was deliberate was the crediting of all Hall & Oates recordings. You'll never see "Hall & Oates," but rather "Daryl Hall & John Oates." Which is interesting, considering Hall & Oates are currently suing granola company Haulin' Oats over copyright iinfringement — evidently for a name that half of pair doesn't even like.
Still, the duo endures, playing in Hershey on Monday, May 4; Allentown on Wednesday, May 6; and Atlantic City on Saturday, June 27.
