Avid Radiopharmaceuticals Inc., Philadelphia, a developer of molecular-imaging agents for early detection of neurological disorders, named Ernest Mario to its board of directors. Mario has more than 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, medical-device and biotechnology fields. He is chairman of Reliant Pharmaceuticals Inc., Liberty Corner, N.J., where he also was chief executive officer from 2003 to 2006. He also serves on the boards of directors of Boston Scientific Corp., Natick, Mass.; Maxygen, Inc., Redwood City, Calif.; Alexza Pharmaceuticals Inc., Palo Alto, Calif.; and Pharmaceutical Product Development Inc., Wilmington, N.C.
The Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority named David W. Woods to its board of directors. He is chief of staff for Pennsylvania Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R., Chester and Delaware). Earlier, he was senior vice president, public affairs and issues management, for Exelon Corp.
MileStone Bank, a Doylestown-based community bank, appointed Linda Steinberg to its board of directors. She is chief financial officer of ARRR, L.L.C., Philadelphia, a precious-metals refinery and co-owner of Abington Metals Refining Inc., Philadelphia.
Lawrence S. Smith was named board chair and chief volunteer officer for the YMCA of Philadelphia & Vicinity Association, a nonprofit human-services organization. He is a retired executive vice president and co-chief financial officer of Comcast Corp., Philadelphia.
Dollar Financial Corp., Berwyn, a financial-services company, appointed Clive Kahn and John Gavin to its board of directors. Kahn is the former chief executive officer of Travelex Ltd., London. Gavin is vice chairman and former chief executive officer and president of Drake, Beam, Morin Inc., New York.
David Gutin, a partner at the law firm of Astor Weiss Kaplan & Mandel L.L.P., Philadelphia, was elected to the board of directors of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. The council serves as the representative voice of the organized Jewish community.
Bancroft NeuroHealth, Haddonfield, appointed Joseph C. Atkinson chairman of its board of trustees. He succeeds Raymond Welsh. The Haddonfield nonprofit organization annually serves more than 1,200 children and adults with developmental disabilities, brain injuries, and other neurological impairments. Atkinson joined the Bancroft board in April 2004 as finance committee chairman. He is a principal in PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P.'s advisory practice in Philadelphia, and serves as the U.S. operations leader for the firm's governance, risk and compliance practice.
Continental Bank Holdings Inc. and its wholly owned banking subsidiary, Continental Bank, Plymouth Meeting, appointed Kevin J. Silverang to the board of directors. He is a principal and founding partner of Silverang Hallowell Development Co. L.L.C., St. Davids, a development company specializing in acquiring and developing value-added real estate. He also cofounded the law firm of Silverang & Donohoe L.L.C., Philadelphia, and served as executive vice president and general counsel of O'Neill Properties Group, King of Prussia.
