has been elected chairman of

3rd Federal Bank

, a Newtown bank founded in 1921 that is a subsidiary of TF Financial Corp. where he is also a board member. Tantala succeeds longtime chairman

George A. Olsen

, who passed away Oct. 10. Tantala will also serve as chairman of the Financial Corporation Audit Committees of both entities. He is the founding principal, president, and chief executive officer of Tantala Associates L.L.C. and retired as a U.S. Army officer in 1989 after 28 years of service.

Encorium Group Inc., a publicly held Berwyn multinational clinical research organization conducting studies for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, has appointed Sari Laitinen to its board. She replaces Jyrki Mattila, who has resigned. Laitinen will also serve as the chairwoman of the Nominating Committee and as a member of the Audit and Executive Compensation Committees. The board remains at five members, a majority of which are independent. Laitinen is the founder and owner of Sari Laitinen, U.S. Legal Counsel, a U.S. legal-services firm established in 2006 in Espoo, Finland. Before 2006, Laitinen was director, U.S. Capital Markets, with Ernst & Young Oy based in Helsinki, Finland.

Maria J. Wing has been elected to the board of trustees of Woods Services Foundation, a Langhorne provider of specialized services to people who suffer from disabilities. She is an associate in the business practice group Stradley, Ronon, Stevens & Young L.L.P., Philadelphia.

Urban League of Philadelphia, a nonprofit civil rights organization, has named five new members to its board for three-year terms:
