Teva to build distribution center in Philadelphia

Teva Pharmaceuticals USA will announce on Thursday that it will build a $295 million distribution and warehouse center on Red Lion Road in Northeast Philadelphia, Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D., Pa.) said today.

The company, a unit of Israeli pharmaceutical giant Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Inc., has its U.S. base in North Wales, Montgomery County.

Schwartz said the Red Lion Road project will create 200 jobs within three years and retain 200 existing jobs at Teva USA. The new site will consist of three buildings, totaling 1.2 million square feet, and will support all of Teva warehousing and distribution in the United States.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries specializes in developing and selling generic and proprietary drugs. It had 2009 revenue of $13.9 billion and net income of $2 billion.    -Paul Schweizer
