CSN Philadelphia brand deep-sixed, network name officially changes to NBC
Cable giant Comcast Corp. takes a big step toward consolidating its regional sports networks around the United States, including those in Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston, under NBC.
Recasting its cable sports networks under the NBC name, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia and the other Comcast-owned regional sports network are rebranding themselves on Monday — in time for the National Hockey League and National Basketball Association seasons.
CSN Philly is now NBC Sports Philadelphia, and TCN will be NBC Sports Philadelphia+.
For Philadelphia fans, there will be no changes in content or TV channels, says the South Philadelphia network that airs the Flyers, Sixers and Phillies.
Other 24-hour Comcast-owned regional sports networks, in Chicago, Boston and Washington, are being similarly renamed. Comcast acquired NBCUniversal, which included the NBC broadcast-TV network, in 2011 and has consolidated its various sports networks under NBC over the last several years.
