Gasoline prices continued their steady climb today, with the cost of a gallon rising by a penny in the Philadelphia region and nationally, AAA Mid-Atlantic said.

The per gallon price in southeastern Pennsylvania rose to $2.72, and the price in South Jersey went to $2.53, the auto club said. Nationally, this morning's price was $2.69.
Philadelphia started 2009 with gas at an average $1.68 a gallon. In South Jersey, the average on Jan. 1 was 1.44. - Inquirer Staff
