Big tower, shorter name: Comcast cuts 'innovation' from high-rise's moniker
What's to one day be the tallest building in Philadelphia now has a shorter name.
Comcast Corp. has quietly tweaked the title of the 60-story high-rise being built for the company near its existing headquarters tower to make it "shorter and more digestible," spokesman John Demming said.
The building is now being called the "Comcast Technology Center," rather than the "Comcast Innovation and Technology Center," said Demming, adding that the earlier name had always been seen as a placeholder.
The new tower, at 1800 Arch St., will be the tallest building in the United States outside New York or Chicago when it is completed in 2018.
Planned are 44 floors of office space, mostly for Comcast's media and technology operations, a Four Seasons hotel of more than 200 rooms, and restaurants on its top and ground floors.
