Wawa coming to ground floor of East Market complex apartments

Wawa will join tenants including Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, Mom’s Organic Market, and furniture chain Design Within Reach at the East Market development.

Wawa Inc. will open what will be its fifth Center City convenience store at the East Market residential, retail, and office complex between 11th and 12th Streets on Market Street.

The company plans a 6,200-square-foot location on the ground floor of the 1199 Ludlow St. apartment building now under construction at the southeast the corner of 12th and Market Streets, Dan Killinger, a managing director with the East Market project's Washington-based developer,  National Real Estate Development, said at a press conference Tuesday.

The store will be among Wawa's Center City locations to offer "built-to-order" salads and will feature fresh-baked breads and pastries that the company plans to roll out chain-wide, Wawa president and chief executive Chris Gheysens said. Wawa plans to open the store by spring of 2018, he said.

Other retail tenants at the East Market development include Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, Mom's Organic Market and furniture chain Design Within Reach.
