A huge sinkhole — 25 by 25 feet wide and six feet deep — opened early Tuesday in the 100 block of Shaffer Road in Upper Merion, where it intersects Route 202 North near the King of Prussia Mall.

A section of the road fell onto a water line, filling the crater with water and cutting off service to 20 houses and an insurance business on the  quiet street.

Aqua Pennsylvania and Peco crews were on the scene in the 100 block of Shaffer Road at mid-morning to repair the damage.

An Aqua spokesman said that water service was restored at 3:30 p.m. and that the street should be reopened by Wednesday morning.
