Dr. J, wife want to keep Philly kids fit

JULIUS and Dorys Erving are getting into the fit game. The basketball legend is assisting his wife with the Dorys Erving Fit Youth Foundation to fight childhood obesity.

Ken Jacobsen, secretary, treasurer and director of the foundation, said the Ervings' organization will offer educational programs and address healthy food-access issues (including starting a restaurant-style kitchen to "get a meal in a dignified environment" at little to no cost). It will offer clinics featuring Erving and some of his athlete buddies, like Charles Barkley, who is on the foundation's wish list (and who lost quite a bit of weight himself).

The foundation will hold a gala on Nov. 15 that will include Ervings' celeb buddies, like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Marsha Ambrosius, Richard Dent, Clyde Drexler, Cedric the Entertainer, Stedman Graham, Victor Green, Bernard Hopkins, Jeffrey Osborne, Bill Russell and more to come.

Congrats to South Philly's Torre Big & Tall Menswear (1217 S. Broad St.), which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, third-generation owner Mark Rosenfeld reflected on some of his favorite celebs to dress: "Other than a recent request for size 18 pink socks and in the past getting size 23 shoes for NBA players Shaquille O'Neal and Bob Lanier, the most memorable were fitting Aurangzeb Khan, an 8-foot tall performer with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, with a sports coat, and filling a request for a size 80 red sports coat with a Masonic logo on the pocket from a Mason who was taking a group photo with his fellow Masons."

Those are some supremely big dudes.

A Philly bride will grace "Say Yes to the Dress" this Friday at 9 p.m. on TLC. Dana, still grieving from her mother's recent death from ovarian cancer, heads to Kleinfeld Bridal, to find a dress that perfectly emulates her mother's style.

Want to meet the stars of the "Hunger Games: Catching Fire," like Jena Malone, who plays axe-wielding Johanna Mason; Sam Claflin, who plays heartthrob Finnick Odair; and Jeffrey Wright ("Boardwalk Empire"), who plays tech wiz Beetee? They'll be in town Sunday at the Cherry Hill Mall.

* Eagles players Julian Vandervelde, Michael Bamiro, G.J. Kinne and Matthew Tucker all came out to support Boobie Bingo at the Irish Pol (45 S. 3rd St.), managed by former WDRE/ Y100/WYSP personality Couzin Ed. (Fun Ed Fact: He's a voice coordinator at Rockstar Games and worked on the massively popular "Grand Theft Auto V.") The event raised $2,391 for the Eileen Stein Jacoby Fund, at Fox Chase Cancer Center.

* State Rep. Jim Roebuck hung out with the Sixers' Kwame Brown and Tony Wroten yesterday at Philly Cuts (4409 Chestnut St.), where 76 West Philly students were offered free haircuts by owner Darrell Thomas and his staff of 10 barbers.

Head to Tony Luke's (39 E. Oregon Ave.) on Friday with toys in hand to support the 33rd annual Delaware Valley A.B.A.T.E. Toy Run for the Kids, supported by the United States Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program. The drive runs from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There's also good stuff for you, too, like a raffle for two giant gift baskets and appearances by WIP's Jody McDonald, Michael Barkann and the Phillie Phanatic.
