CBS3's Ileana Diaz expecting
The rookie reporter is expecting a girl with her New York-based husband.
CBS3 REPORTER Ileana Diaz is expecting her first child, a girl.
Diaz is married to fellow broadcast journalist Joel Waldman, an investigative reporter at Fox 5 in New York City, where Diaz previously worked before heading to Philly in July.
Diaz is one of many television reporters sporting baby bumps, including 6ABC's Alicia Vitarelli, Jamie Apody and Nydia Han, as well as Fox 29's Kerry Barrett. Channel 6's Ducis Rodgers just became a dad for the second time, welcoming Dylan Mac Rodgers last week.
The Politico and Posey
One of the politicos rumored to be vying for former Eagle Jon Runyan's New Jersey congressional seat has a celebrity past.
John Giordano, the assistant commissioner for compliance and enforcement for New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection, has been rumored for a congressional run since December. When he was a lawyer living in Center City, Giordano was linked to actress Parker Posey, according to my good buddy Dan Gross.
Posey, a regular player in Christopher Guest films like "Waiting for Guffman" and the Philly-set "Best in Show," was in town in 2008 shooting "Happy Tears" with Demi Moore and Rip Torn when her longtime friendship with Giordano apparently turned to romance. The duo were seen canoodling around town during her stay.
Giordano could not be reached for comment.
'Idol' tune-in
If you happen to watch tonight's episode of "American Idol," I hear you might see a local face. "Idol" starts its 13th season tonight, with the three-person judging panel of Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban.
'Shot' shock
The jersey worn by former basketballer Christian Laettner when he made the famous buzzer-beater shot in Duke's 104-103 victory over Kentucky in the East Regional Finals of the 1992 NCAA tournament played at the Spectrum sold for $119,500 at a recent Lelands auction. The near-insane sum - you can buy a house in Philly for less - was the second-most ever for a basketball jersey. The most expensive? A game-worn Julius Erving ABA Virginia Squires jersey, which sold for $190,414 in 2011.
Brad Smith gets fancy
Eagles utility player Brad Smith is starting a fashion design contest. Menswear designers nationwide will be asked to sketch a full red-carpet ensemble, including suit, shirt, accessories and vest.
The winner will receive fashion mentorship from industry professionals, patterning and production of the original design, which Smith will wear on the red carpet at a Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week show, as well as an editorial shot, modeled by Smith in Traffic magazine. The newbie Eagle and contributor to Men's Health says he likes "clean, classic lines, with a bit of an edge."
I certainly look forward to Smith's fashion forays in Philly next year.
The contest runs through Jan. 23. For guidelines, go to designforbradsmith.com.
'Rock' talk
A guitar autographed by Queen's Brian May is on display at the Cherry Hill Guitar Center (2100 New Jersey Route 38) in honor of the musical "We Will Rock You," opening today at the Academy of Music. Queen aficionados will have the chance to win the ax from Guitar Center.
