West Catholic High School said Monday it is the recipient of a $1 million gift, the largest in its 96-year history.

The donors have not been identified.

The money is to be used to fund a new 5-year strategic plan for the West Philadelphia institution, which had been targeted for closure.

The plan aims to make the school self sustaining by 2015, according to the school.

About 345 students, including 145 freshman, are enrolled for the school year beginning in September.

The gift is on top an another $1 million raised during the 2012-13 fiscal year, the school said.

Correction: This story was corrected to reflect that the school has raised an additional $1 million, not $2 million, as appeared in an earlier version.
