Student makes case for increased school funding

Tauheed Baukman couldn't imagine what his high school would be like under the Philadelphia School District's doomsday budget. A single secretary. No guidance counselors. No support staff.

Tauheed Baukman, left, couldn't imagine what his high school will be like under the Philadelphia's School District's doomsday budget. So the senior at Parkway Center City High School took matters into his own hands. He created a petition and posted it at Change.org to draw attention to the schools' plight and put pressure on politicians to step up and help a foundering system. He's getting signatures from near and far. He's also volunteering with friends at his high school this summer calling freshmen to attend orientation, putting up posters and helping the principal prepare for the opening of school Sept. 9. "I pretty much help out any way I can," Baukman said. Tauheed and Principal Karren (CQ) Dunkley talk about where a banner should be hung on Aug. 6, 2013. They can't hang it till painting is done.
