Starr's restaurants seek patron donations for schools

PHILADELPHIA The situation struck the restaurateur Stephen Starr as "sad" - a big-city public school system where teachers had to go begging for basic supplies for their classrooms.

After the press conference to annouce Support Our Schools, Stephen Starr, left, is warmly thanked for his efforts by Philadelphia School Superintendent William Hite, right,  at Parx Restaurant.  Starting soon, every patron at every Stephen Starr restaurant will be asked to donate money to the Philadelphia School District. Starr hopes to raise $100,000 to fund three programs - one for multimedia labs in classrooms, one for playground staff to help calm recesss at tough schools, and one for internships for high school students.
