Marano named principal at Rustin High
WEST CHESTER Mike Marano has been selected from a nationally drawn pool of 28 candidates to be the next principal of West Chester's Bayard Rustin High School, the district announced last week.
Marano, who has been the assistant principal at Strath Haven High School in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District since 2008, will replace Phyllis Simmons, who has retired.
"I am confident that Dr. Marano will not only continue to foster excellence, but will work closely with the staff, students, and the entire community to strive for continuous improvement in the achievements of our students at Rustin," James Scanlon, the West Chester Area School District superintendent, said in a news release.
Simmons led the school since it opened in 2006.
District officials said they will be scheduling meetings between Marano and staff, students, and parents from Bayard Rustin to help in the transition.
