Children's Scholarship Fund Philadelphia will offer financial aid to 2,000 additional low-income city children in grades K through 8 so they can attend nonpublic schools in 2018-19.

The scholarships from the nonprofit will provide aid for four years and will be awarded by lottery from the pool of qualified applicants. Forms are available at libraries, schools, and churches throughout the city. Applications are also available online at CSFPhiladelphia.org.

Although the fund will accept applications until the deadline of March 1, 2018, priority will be given to scholarship forms received before Nov. 15, 2017.

Founded in 1998, Children's Scholarship is assisting about 5,400 K-8 children at more than 170 nonpublic schools. The average scholarship provides $1,950 per year to help children attend nonpublic schools, where the typical tuition is about $4,200.

A large percentage of the aid comes from state programs that give businesses tax credits for contributing to approved scholarship programs.
