Friends in high places
More than 700 fans of author Mitch Albom, a native of Haddon Township, attended "An Intimate Evening with Mitch Albom & Friends" Sept. 29 at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue. On hand to help Albom launch his latest book, Have a Little Faith, were Albom friends singer Tony Bennett, NBC sportscaster Bob Costas, author James McBride, and Angelo Cataldi of WIP Radio. Nearly $50,000 was raised for Project HOME, Jewish Family and Children's Service of Philadelphia, and the Rabbi Albert Lewis Memorial Fund of Temple Beth Sholom, Cherry Hill.
The shirt off your back
The Foundation for Breast & Prostate Health raised nearly $300,000 at its 15th annual "Give the Shirt Off Your Back!" fund-raiser held Friday at the Rittenhouse Hotel. The benefit, a black and white ball, was attended by more than 200 guests. After dinner, 60 members of the Foundation's Young Friends' group joined the party for dessert and dancing to the Eddie Bruce Orchestra.
Gala for Devereux
Devereux Pennsylvania held its 11th annual benefit, "A Mystery and Magic Black-Tie Affair," Saturday at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue. The gala, cochaired by Barbara Smith-Cogshall and Shaye Allison Schloss, honored Lisa Yang, a Devereux parent and trustee of Devereux's national board. The event for 285 guests raised nearly $130,000 for Devereux Pennsylvania, which provides mental and behavioral health-care services to 3,400 children and adults with special needs.
Fun with fashion
Singer Lauren Hart was the emcee of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation's benefit, "Fashion Fights Ovarian Cancer," held Sept. 26 at the Shops at Liberty Place. The event, which featured a fashion show by designer Pamela Dennis, honored Dr. George Coukos of the University of Pennsylvania Health System's Ovarian Cancer Research Center and ovarian cancer survivor Missy Dougherty of Havertown. The evening for 310 guests raised $65,000.
