Cooper University Hospital's Cooper Foundation held its first Red Hot Gala Saturday at the Hyatt Regency at Penn's Landing, raising more than $1 million. George E. Norcross III, hospital board chair, and his wife, Sandy, were the benefit's honorary chairs. More than 800 guests enjoyed a performance by Camden's Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble, dancing to the Infernos, and special Coopertini cocktails. Susan Bass Levin, Cooper Foundation president and chief executive officer; Dr. Michael Goldberg and his wife, Melody; and Dr. Amanda Burden and her husband, Guy Aiman, served as gala cochairs. Proceeds will support the expansion of the hospital's Simulation Laboratory, which provides high-tech training for medical professionals.
Philly fiesta
Nearly 500 guests attended a night of Chilean-inspired cuisine, dancing, and decor at Congreso de Latinos Unidos' fifth annual black-tie benefit, held March 19 at the Hyatt at the Bellevue. Gala Latina: Chillin' in Chile began with salsa dancing lessons, and continued with a traditional dance performance by Brisas de Chile and dancing to the Amla Masters Latin band. Guests also enjoyed a dinner of Chilean sea bass with chorizo, Chilean crepes with caramel ice cream and a papaya mango salsa for dessert, and Chilean wines. The evening was cochaired by Congreso board chair Ken Trujillo and his wife, Laura.
Silver anniversary
The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc., Pennsylvania Chapter held its 25th-anniversary Madam C.J. Walker Awards Luncheon March 12 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. The event, which honored Kia Steave-Dickerson, Nicole Newman, and Orphialasertrella Adams-Taylor, awarded $1,500 scholarships to three college-bound African American women. The 600 luncheon guests raised more than $25,000 for the coalition, which provides college scholarships, and health, education, and business leadership seminars for African American women and young girls.
The rest is history
The 29th annual Chester County Antiques Show, chaired by Kristine Lisi, opened March 18 with a Preview Party for 320 guests. The party and show, which featured 59 antiques dealers, were held March 19 and 20 and raised more than $90,000 for the Chester County Historical Society.
