The Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Convention, a gathering for scrapbookers and paper crafters, will offer shopping, classes, and time to work on projects at the Valley Forge Convention Center. Classes all day Friday and Saturday aim to present new techniques and ideas to participants. The Vendor Faire, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, allows guests to shop for an array of materials. Admission is free for children 9 and under, $7 to $10 for others. Free shows
The Delaware County Summer Festival offers three free events this weekend - ballet by Brandywine Ballet, tributes to Elvis and Chicago from Big G & the Cool Cats, and a performance by the Obsoleets & Rodney Bradley Friends Choir, a seven-piece band with a gospel choir. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs, along with food, to the Rose Tree Park Amphitheater in Media. Refreshments also will be available at the amphitheater. Sixers by the beach
The Philadelphia 76ers' 12th annual Beach Bash in Avalon, N.J., will offer a bar, free activities for families, and a chance to meet Sixers coach Doug Collins and assistant Brian James. There will also be a "yard sale" of autographed items. A silent auction will benefit Philadelphia-area charities. Admission for family events is free; the bar, for 21-year-olds and above, is $10. Unity Picnic
The fifth annual Unity Picnic invites atheists, humanists, agnostics, rationalists, and others of a similar perspective for a day of food and conversation. The event is hosted by the Philadelphia Coalition of Reason, an umbrella organization for people who do not believe in God. A $10 donation is required for food. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish and RSVP at PhillyReason@gmail.com. The picnic will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Flourtown Pavilion in Fort Washington State Park. Block party
Founders of the 2nd Street Festival join with the Philadelphia Folksong Society to throw a free party Sunday along six blocks in Northern Liberties. It will include performances, children's programs, and workshops. An array of music - hip-hop, indie, R&B - will be played on three all-day stages at the Second Street intersections with Poplar Street, George Street, and Fairmount Avenue. Another stage will be at the Piazza at Schmidts, 1001 N. Second St. The party will be from noon to 6 p.m. in the 700 to 1100 blocks of North Second Street. Information:
