Family fun, fun, fun
The Third Annual Car Show & Family Fun Day, presented by Rotary International District 7450 Area 1 and Parx Casino & Racing, is Saturday at Bensalem High School, 4319 Hulmeville Rd., Bensalem. The event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with sign-ins for judging at 8 a.m. Families are invited to wear their best '50s outfits and to enjoy rides, games, crafts, Bensalem K-9 Unit Shows, Bensalem Motor Patrol Bikes, and great food. Contests include jitterbug, Elvis look-alike, and hula hoop. 98.1 WOGL will play music. Proceeds benefit community projects. Rain date is Sunday. Admission is free and car registration is $20. A Dog night
Three Dog Night will give a concert Friday at the Mount Laurel Pocono Mountains Performing Arts Center's 2012 Music on the Mount Summer Concert Series. The opening act will be Flyin Blind and local band Bovine Social Club, performing on the Adams Festival Stage on the front lawn of the center, 1 Tamiment Rd., Tamiment. Spokesman David Hughes said a lawn party will get guests into the groove with a barbecue, tastings from sponsors, giveaways, beer and wine bars, and picnic and party spaces. Jazz, Chesco style
The Chester County Jazz Festival will present concerts Friday through Sunday at Asplundh Concert Hall on the campus of West Chester University, and at Hoopes Park, 700 Hoopes Park Lane, in West Chester. Featured will be Peter White, Warren Hill, Ronnie Laws and Gerald Veasley, and regional performers including B.D. Lenz, the Criterions, Tom Braxton, Karen Rodriguez Latin Jazz Ensemble, and Gary Davis. The festival starts off with guitarist White at Asplundh, and moves to Hoopes Park Saturday with free outdoor festivities with artists Davis and Dotsero Jazz Band. Hill takes the stage at 8:30 p.m. The free festivities continue at Hoopes Park on Sunday at 11 a.m. and end with a performance by Laws. Festivalgoers should bring blankets, lawn chairs, and umbrellas. Parking will be available, as well as a shuttle service for patrons parking in the borough of West Chester. Tickets are $40 to $75 for the show at 7 p.m. Friday, but it's free 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Information: 610-365-1404,

Embrace the eagle
"The American Eagle: Symbol of Freedom and Enterprise to the du Pont Family" can be viewed this weekend through January at the Hagley Museum and Library, 200 Hagley Rd. (Rt. 141), Wilmington. The eagle has been an icon in the history of the du Pont family, which came to the United States on the ship American Eagle. The DuPont Co.'s first product was Eagle Gun Powder, and decorative arts collected by Mrs. Louise du Pont Crowninshield were adorned with eagles, a common symbol in Federal-style furnishings.
