Children ages 5 to 12 can learn do-it-yourself skills on Saturday at Home Depot's monthly kids workshop series.

The free workshops offered from 9 a.m. to noon at Home Depots nationwide teach children tool safety such as how to properly use a hammer and screwdriver. Kids will make a craft they can take home, and participants will receive a free apron, commemorative pin, and certificate of completion.

Workshops are held the first Saturday of every month; parents must stay with children during the class.

BBQ and fireworks at Sesame Place

Celebrate Labor Day a day early as Sesame Place presents a barbecue dinner, a parade, and fireworks.

The fun begins Sunday from 5 to 6 p.m. when families can feast on a barbecue dinner at the Big Bird Riverside Pavilion. Sesame Street characters will stop by.

At 8, the Neighborhood Street Party Night Parade begins, followed by a 10-minute fireworks show set to Sesame Street music at 8:20.

Garden Railway, Circus Week

Kids can see miniature display houses, palaces, and more from favorite children's stories at Morris Arboretum's Garden Railway Storytime Rail exhibit. The arboretum also continues its encore circus railway presentation for the Circus Week theme. Both exhibits will be on display through Monday.

See houses and buildings made of natural material with characters including Rapunzel from the Brothers Grimm, Peter Pumpkin-Eater, and Sleeping Beauty and her castle. The circus theme will be integrated into the exhibit, and visitors can see miniature lions, tigers, and more animals in vibrant boxcars.
