Ellen Gray's weekend TV picks
This week, she features "The Newsroom," "Masterpiece Mystery!: Foyle's War," "Breaking Bad" and "Devious Maids."
* THE NEWSROOM. 10 p.m. Sunday, HBO.
After a frustrating stretch in which we learned that the bogus story about sarin gas was planted by a guy with a ridiculously personal vendetta (and that the entire ACN news team - on Election Night - has the attention span of a single toddler), Aaron Sorkin delivers a season finale with at least a couple of his trademark Big Moments, the kind that (almost) make me forgive the rest. Oh, and we find out why Maggie (Alison Pill) did that thing to her hair.
* MASTERPIECE MYSTERY!:
FOYLE'S WAR. 9 p.m. Sunday, WHYY12.
World War II is over, but the fighting continues for former police detective Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen), who returns from a sojourn in America to find post-war Britain awash in spies and paranoia. Recruited by MI5 and reunited with his former driver, Sam (Honeysuckle Weeks), he'll be trying to maintain his principles amid a whole new set of challenges.
* BREAKING BAD. 9 p.m. Sunday, AMC.
Presumably the smoke's cleared by now. Time to find out who's survived the shootout. And, um, exhale.
* DEVIOUS MAIDS. 10 p.m. Sunday, Lifetime.
We all have our ways of dealing with the post-"Breaking Bad" (or post-"Dexter") tension. I find this soapy murder mystery makes a nice chaser. In the next-to-last episode of the season, Marisol (Philly's Ana Ortiz) continues to dig into Flora's death, a quest that's getting ever more dangerous.
