At Seaport Museum Christmas is bright with boats in lights

On Saturday, enjoy waterside and museum activities at Independence Seaport Museum's annual Seaport Parade of Lights, a holiday lighted boat parade on the Delaware River. Santa will also make a visit.

On Saturday, enjoy waterside and museum activities at Independence Seaport Museum's annual Seaport Parade of Lights, a holiday lighted boat parade on the Delaware River. Santa will also make a visit.

Festivities begin at 11 a.m. in the museum, where guests can enjoy complimentary refreshments while supplies last and carolers will sing. Shane Confectionery will give a demonstration of old-fashioned candy making from 3 to 5 p.m. From 11 to 4, visitors can craft ornaments and gingerbread boats inside Santa's Workshop on the Water.

The parade, also a competition for best-decorated boat, will begin at 5 p.m. led by the Jupiter, a vintage 1902 tug maintained by the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild. The parade will have working vessels along with sail enthusiasts who own boats. Santa will make a pre-parade visit from 4 to 5.

Smith's Winter Wonderland

Walk into a winter wonderland on Saturday at Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse in a celebration of the season presented by Peco.

Enchantment Theatre Company characters from Aladdin will perform magic tricks. Guests can watch local artist Roger Wing carve a block of ice into a work of art, and children can craft toys and gifts. A hot cocoa bar will provide drinks.

The event is designed for children 10 and younger and their caregivers.

'The Nutcracker' at Drexel

The Philadelphia Dance Academy and its Youth Ballet present their fourth annual production of The Nutcracker on Friday and Saturday at Drexel University's Mandell Theater.

The mission of the academy, and its youth division, is to provide professional training in a positive environment for students of all levels.
