The Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia hosted Sakura Under the Stars on April 11, a cocktail party held at Union Trust as part of the weeklong 2015 Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival, which ended with Sakura Sunday in Fairmount Park. Among cherry blossoms and a star-filled garden party, 125 attendees feasted on sushi, Asian fusion-style hors d'oeuvres, and sake samplings, while enjoying live Japanese music entertainment and an open bar with specialty cocktails. The party raised $18,000. The mission of the society is to foster better understanding of the cultural, social, and educational customs of Japan. To date, it has planted more than 1,000 cherry blossom trees in local parks, supplementing the 1,600 trees presented to the City of Philadelphia by the Japanese government in 1926.
