On Oct. 17, Wills Eye Hospital celebrated the 40th anniversary of its renowned eye cancer service. More than 500 attended the event, held at the Union League in Philadelphia. Distinguished honorees included founding director Jerry A. Shields; co-director Carol L. Shields; Ralph C. Eagle Jr., director of pathology and a professor of ophthalmic pathology; and Luther W. Brady Jr., one of the world's foremost experts on radiation oncology. To date, the Oncology Service has grown into the largest eye cancer center in the nation.
