On May 11, the Youth Work Foundation of the Union League of Philadelphia celebrated its 70th annual Good Citizen Day. More than 300 high school juniors, selected from nominations by 50 youth-serving organizations in the Philadelphia region, joined in an all-day event that recognized students who have demonstrated good citizenship. The students enjoyed special programs at the federal courthouse, seeing the different branches of government in action and learning about the roles and responsibilities of each, and were encouraged to become leaders of tomorrow. The day ended with a large banquet and presentation of Good Citizen Awards at the historic Union League, attended by members of the Union League and invited guests. To date, the award has been given to more than 17,000 young people, many of whom have become leaders in business and in their chosen professions.
