Ukee Washington sits down with 'Late Show's' Colbert
Its wiz wit and the works for Colberts cheesesteaks.
CBS3 anchor Ukee Washington hammed it up with "The Late Show" host Stephen Colbert recently in New York City, in advance of Colbert's local debut last night, following Eyewitness News.
The one-on-one interview, which aired last night at 11 p.m., covered topics - from the serious to the hysterical - including the impending question from Washington on whether Colbert preferred his cheesesteak "wit or witout?"
"Yeah, yeah, wit wiz and onions and everything else," said Colbert, who admitted to trying both Pat's and Geno's steaks once in the same day.
"Doctors say I will eventually pass them," he laughed.
Washington said the New York visit was his first time meeting Colbert, but that he felt like he'd known him his whole life.
"What an intelligent, humorous and humble man," said Washington. "I have no doubt that CBS found the right person for the job!"
When the two former boys' choir members (Washington, as a youth, traversed the globe with the Philadelphia Boys Choir) realized they had strong pipes in common, they broke into an impromptu rendition of the National Anthem.
Low morale at WHYY?
Chris Satullo, former Inquirer editorial-page editor and veteran news reporter, last week resigned as news director at WHYY-FM. His last day is Friday.
Bill Marrazzo, WHYY president and CEO, in a letter to the staff described Satullo's contributions to the station as "exceptional," and reassured employees he'll quickly be replaced.
The CEO paints it as an amicable parting, but a source on the inside says it's not.
"Most of us were pretty blindsided," said the source - on the condition of anonymity.
"It's no secret the management here is not loved. I could see it as a personality conflict . . . It boils down to a power struggle. This is a huge blow to all of us . . . It's a difficult place to work and you have to navigate a lot of lines and I don't know if they were navigated. The captain was just knocked off the ship."
The source said that everything good WHYY has done over the last eight years - since Satullo started - has been thanks to Satullo. This includes the launch and expansion of the digital news offerings NewsWorks and Plan Philly.
I'm told that when Satullo addressed staff members last week outside the WHYY studios at Franklin Square, at 6th and Race streets, there was hardly a dry eye in the park.
Bradley Cooper's Jersey Shore Labor Day
E! News is reporting that Jenkintown heartthrob Bradley Cooper and supermodel girlfriend Irina Shayk were spotted way downashore for Labor Day weekend. During visits to several Jersey Shore towns, paparazzi snapped pictures of them snuggling and smooching following meet-ups with friends and family and dinner with Cooper's mother, Gloria.
Sources say Cooper, 40, and Shayk, 29, dined at Steve & Cookie's by the Bay (9700 Amherst Ave.) in Margate City. Just a week ago, Cooper was photographed with fans at Richman's Ice Cream (3107 W. Brigantine Ave.) in Brigantine.
