In the celebrity world, 2012 was filled with break-ups, make-ups and random romances.

There were plenty of awkward pairings to choose from, but we've decided to keep this list short and sweet with 7 celebrity couples who caused a scene in 2012:

1. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Let's start with the obvious – Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Following the fallout from her over-publicized 72 day marriage, Kim Kardashian quickly ran into the arms of hip-hop phenomenon, Kanye West. Since both celebrities are known for loving the limelight, their match-up seemed a bit skeptical – but they seem to be getting along just fine. Maybe two big egos are better than one?

2. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis both launched their careers on the same hit show. They've both experienced long-term relationships, followed by elongated public break-ups. And clearly, they're both two gorgeous human beings. The similarities between the two are endless, and although Demi Moore may not be happy about this, everyone else seems to dig it.

3. Evelyn Lozada and Chad Johnson

After Evelyn and the former Ochocino head-butted their way onto our TV sets, into our morning papers and all over our newsfeeds, their bizarre relationship continues to make headlines. It looks like the now divorced couple is finally moving on with their lives.

4. Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy

With a stunning 16-year age gap, the relationship between Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy was a bit shocking at first. In a recent interview with WSJ, Olsen responded to the public with, "Everyone has an opinion, I find it's better to focus on what's in front of you and to keep putting one foot in front of the other." Hey, age ain't nothing but a number, right?

5. Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris

Speaking of age gaps and attention seekers…

6. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart + Rupert Sanders

This love triangle made headlines this summer when Kristen Stewart was caught cheating on her on-screen and real-life boo Robert Pattinson with none other than the director for her film, "Snow White and the Huntsman." Ouch! Stewart later publicly apologized for it, which was conveniently followed a reconciliation of the two "Breaking Dawn" stars, right before their world-wide press tour to promote the sequel. Interesting.

7. Chris Brown and Rihanna

As if we haven't encountered enough news involving Chris Brown and Rihanna news, it's only right to finish off the list with the most talked-about couple of the year.  Are they together, are they not? These two act like they're trying to keep whatever they have behind-closed-doors, but it doesn't work when you post lovey-dovey photos of each other on Instagram. Emphasis: Social media.
