Ben Simmons and Kendall Jenner’s summer romance is done, reports say

Sixers fans, you can finally relax — it looks like Ben Simmons' relationship with Kendall Jenner has run its course.

The pair's romance has "cooled off" recently, an anonymous source told E! News this week, adding that Jenner was never "fully committed" to Simmons. Their reported breakup comes just three months after dating rumors began popping up back in May.

"She always wanted to keep her options open," the source told E!. "She likes Ben but knew it was more of a summer fling. They both have busy careers and it is what it is. Kendall isn't looking for anything serious. She had fun with Ben, but wasn't ever fully committed or looking for a long-term, exclusive relationship."

Another source told Us magazine that the couple's relationship is "fizzling and dissipating due to scheduling conflicts," and that Jenner "knows there's always a hot new fling waiting around the corner for her."

News of Simmons and Jenner's reported split comes following a trip earlier this month to Mexico, where the couple vacationed with Khloe Kardashian and her beau, Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Tristan Thompson. Simmons and Jenner also reportedly briefly shacked up in a Los Angeles home that ran about $25,000 per month in rent.

Simmons and Jenner began dating in May following the Sixers point guard's breakup with singer Tinashe. After news broke of Simmons' new relationship, Tinashe's brother, Kudzai Kachingwe, accused Simmons of cheating on his sister with Jenner.

The couple's relationship set off alarms for some Sixers fans, who pointed to the so-called "Kardashian Curse" as cause for concern. Proponents claim that the likes of Lamar Odom, Blake Griffin, Kris Humphries, and Kanye West have all been negatively influenced by the level of celebrity the Kardashian/Jenner family enjoys.

As Inquirer columnist Elizabeth Wellington put it, "there hasn't been an athlete — let alone a black man — alive who has emerged" from a Kardashian/Jenner relationship "unscathed." In a column about the couple, she asked that Simmons limit the relationship to the summer, which appears to have happened here.

Now, Sixers fans have just one other curse to worry about. The NBA 2K curse involves players like Kyrie Irving and LeBron James switching teams shortly after being featured on the video game's cover, and this year's Rookie of the Year might be in trouble. NBA 2K19, the newest version, features the Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo on the standard US cover, and Simmons on the Australian cover.

The Sixers' regular season tips off Tuesday, Oct. 16 against the Boston Celtics at Boston's TD Garden. NBA 2K19, meanwhile, comes out Sept. 11, giving plenty of time for the curse to run its course. Simmons, however, seems hopeful.

"I've had one year of playing in the NBA, for me personally, I know I have a lot more to give," Simmons said in a report on the Sixers' NBA website this week. "I know where I'm at physically with my body, and I'm maturing a lot more. I'm really excited to get back on the floor."
