‘Double Dare’ to hit the road for live US tour, Philly not included

Nickelodeon's Double Dare is heading out on the road for a series of live dates this fall, but Philly — the place where the show first launched decades ago — isn't included on the list of cities getting a stop.
Set to launch Oct. 30 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the Double Dare Live tour will feature original host Marc Summers at the helm, as well as sidekick Robin Russo, Summers' original co-host on the program. The tour will hit stops throughout the U.S. through November, but if Philly fans want a glimpse, they'll have to travel to Newark, the closest stop to the city on the tour.
The tour will pit two teams, composed of audience members, against one another in traditional Double Dare style, including physical challenges, an obstacle course, and trivia questions. Tickets go on sale starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, according to a release.
Skipping Philly on the upcoming tour, however, is particularly painful for local fans because Double Dare got its start here way back in 1986. That year, the show began filming at the WHYY-TV studios, where it remained up until 1989. The show was both Nickelodeon's first game show, and Summers' first hosting gig.
After 1989, Double Dare moved production to Universal Studios in Orlando, and stayed there until its cancelation in 1993. Summers, however, split his time between Philadelphia and Los Angeles, and today calls Philly his "adopted hometown."
The Double Dare Live tour comes following the debut of a Double Dare reboot in Nickelodeon earlier this summer. Now hosted by Liza Koshy, the new incarnation of Double Dare features Summers as a color commentator. Despite the change, the show ranks among the top three for kids aged 6 to 11, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
"Hosting the Double Dare Live tour couldn't be any more exciting, and I look forward to bringing the fun and messiness of Double Dare to audiences across the country," Summers said via a release. "Doing the show again with my sidekick Robin will fulfill childhood dreams of the generation that grew up with us and introduce the classic show to the next generation."
