Cherry Hill sisters advance on ‘American Idol’

Smiling, laughing, sweet-talking sultry sisters from Cherry Hill got the featurette treatment on last night's American Idol - and then both got golden tickets to the next round, in Hollywood.

In a video clip, Cherry Hill West grads Bernadette and Amanda DeSimone talked and teased at the house on Kings Highway where they live with their mom and help in her basement salon.

"We're down here a lot. We make people look beautiful. And we have a lot of fun here, too," said Bernadette, 27, her tumbling auburn locks contrasting to Amanda's raven tresses.

"She has the talent to go all the way," Bernadette said tenderly.

"That's nice. She stinks!" Amanda replied. "I'm kidding!"

The sense of fun carried over to their auditions in Orlando, Fla., where Bernadette, in a devilish blue dress, sang "Hit the Road Jack," followed by bright yellow- frocked Amanda's rendition of "I Want to Dance With Somebody."

"How do you break these two up?" asked judge Kara DioGuardi, who voices suspicions the two might be from Jersey.

She and Randy Jackson gave thumbs up, overriding Simon Cowell, who would have OK'd only Bernadette - the one who did the "crazy nodding," he said, while her sister was performing.

They join dozens of other qualifiers, including Temple student Claire Fuller, who was shown last week advancing during the Boston auditions.
