Serious joe for serious doughnuts
Chicken and fancy fritters usually hog all the attention at Federal Donuts. But the coffee is serious beans, too, thanks to co-owners Bob Logue and Tom Henneman, who also own Bodhi Coffee.
Topeka's "Third wave" roasting star PT's Coffee has crafted a special blend for the doughnut shack, a moderate-roast trio of African, Central, and South American beans that is exceptionally balanced (light cocoa and toasty earthiness) with a bright little ping on the finish to help it cut through a splash of cream - in case old-school coffee and donut habits die hard. Also tastes great from Federal's slow-drip cold-brewers. Even better, take a bag to go.

Not your mother's soup
Yes, the iconic red-label cans and flavors are still available, but Campbell's is hoping to expand its reach to the millennials with these new "Go" soups offered in microwavable, graphically illustrated pouches.
The flavors, inspired by food trucks and popular ethnic fare, go way beyond traditional tomato, with Spicy Chorizo and Pulled Chicken with Black Beans, Golden Lentils with Madras Curry, and Moroccan Style Chicken with Chickpeas.
We liked the Moroccan offering, with just enough heat and cinnamon and respectable nutrition with 24 grams of protein and 160 calories per cup.
