Man dies at finish of Broad St. Run

A male runner collapsed and died yesterday after crossing the finish line in the Broad Street Run, a city official said.

"The young man finished the race," said Recreation Commissioner Victor N. Richard. "He collapsed right at the finish line. As soon as he crossed over."

Medics took the unidentified man to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Richard said.

He said he did not know when the runner collapsed, and couldn't identify him or provide a cause of death.

"We're saddened by it," he said, "and we're praying for the man and his family." *
