In front of an American Legion post named for the first casualty of the Revolutionary War - Crispus Attucks - the city claimed its 16th casualty of the year early Saturday morning.
The quadruple shooting which took the life of Bryant Perrin, 35, and injured three women, occurred as Crispus Attucks Post 151 was letting out for the evening, Ofc. Christine O'Brien, police spokeswoman, said.
Police responded to reports of a person with a gun and gunshot victims outside the club, on 24th Street near Cecil B. Moore Avenue, Strawberry Mansion, around 3:22 a.m.
Perrin, of 23rd Street near Oxford, who was shot more than 10 times, was pronounced dead at Hahnemann University Hospital at 3:50 a.m., homicide Sgt. Tim Cooney said.
A 27-year-old woman who was shot in the leg was treated at Temple University Hospital and released; a 37-year-old woman who was shot in the arm was treated at Hahnemann and released; and a 35-year-old woman who was shot in the leg was admitted to Hahnemann, where she was listed in stable condition, O'Brien said.
Police said it's unclear whether the women, who were in the area but not in the immediate location of the shooting, were targeted victims or just bystanders hit by stray bullets.
The motive of the shooting remains unknown and police are still seeking suspects.
O'Brien and Cooney said that it was unclear whether the club was hosting a private or public function that evening, or if the gunman and the victims were all inside the club prior to the assault. *
