PHILADELPHIA police are reviewing surveillance footage to find the driver in a fatal hit-and-run in Kensington on Christmas night.
The incident happened about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday on Frankford Avenue near Wishart Street.
Witnesses told police that a woman fell and was lying on the sidewalk in the driveway of a Family Dollar store on Frankford Avenue when a black Dodge Charger turned into the driveway and struck her.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle stopped and that the driver, a Hispanic woman estimated to be in her 40s, got out, then got back into the vehicle and drove off. She last was seen driving west on Wishart.
Investigators did not have the license plate of the vehicle.
The 54-year-old victim was taken by medics to Temple University Hospital with head trauma and was pronounced dead at 10:57 p.m. Police withheld her identity, pending family notification.
A police department spokeswoman said that investigators are not sure whether the woman was conscious when she was struck by the vehicle, or what caused her to fall.
A Family Dollar employee said that the store closed at 4 p.m. for the holiday.
