WHAT DOES a wife buy for Father's Day when she's married to one of the highest-paid athletes in the entire world?
Kijafa Vick, wife of Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, is thinking of getting him some more golf gear but she told me, "I don't know."
She's right to hesitate. If you're Michael Vick and you want golfing items, you could buy out any sporting goods store you want. He probably has what he wants already.
"I think I'm going to have a cookout and have his family come over and just be with him. I don't know what else to do for him," Kijafa said laughing.
For the record, the newlyweds don't hit the fairways together much.
"He's been playing for a while. He's pretty good," Kijafa added. "He's really competitive."
Lamb to Slaughter
Author Sabrina Lamb, who earlier this year led a successful campaign against the Oxygen Network's airing of a train wreck of a reality show called "All My Babies Mamas" featuring Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo, will be in town today.
She's the guest of honor at the opening reception for the Faces of Our Fathers Film Festival in Chester, organized by Ulysses "Butch" Slaughter. The show was going to be about Shawty Lo (a/k/a Carlos Walker) and his 11 children by 10 different mothers.
"Anybody could do what I did. I called the CEO," Lamb told me earlier this year. "After they didn't return my phone call, I sent an open letter. Then I reached out to the CEOs of NBC Universal and Comcast," parent companies of Oxygen.
V is for KeVen
So, if you own one of the most popular restaurants in Philly, where do you go to lunch when your own spot is closed?
Cafe V, a relatively new eatery at 13th and South streets, is where we spotted KeVen Parker, owner of Ms. Tootsie's, enjoying a quiet lunch yesterday. Cafe V makes its own sandwich bread and the turkey is the real deal - not that processed lunch meat stuff. Ms. Tootsie's, which is next door, only opens for lunch on Sundays.
The splits for Murdoch
News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch and his much-younger wife, Wendi Deng Murdoch, are divorcing.
The cause? "The relationship between the husband and wife has broken down irretrievably," according to a person familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The couple married in 1999. Wendi, a 44-year-old Yale grad who worked at News Corp.'s subsidiary Star TV in Hong Kong, came to international attention after she leaped to her husband's defense after a protester threw a cream pie at Murdoch, 82, during a British parliamentary hearing into phone hacking by News Corp. newspapers.
