ELKINS PARK Former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is headlining a fund-raiser Friday night for children's eye care.

The "Looking Out for Kids" event at Salus University will feature a silent auction and speeches by Westbrook and Janet Samuels, superintendent of Norristown Area schools, which benefitted last year from donated eye exams and glasses.

The annual fund-raiser allows the university's Eye Institute to provide vision care each year for thousands of children who are uninsured or underinsured.

In 2012, more than 30 percent of 2,379 Philadelphia students screened were found needing glasses. The organization distributed 800 pairs.

Also in 2012, the institute expanded into Norristown, setting up a seven-week clinic at Joseph K. Gotwals Elementary School.

The event will be at the Hafter Student Center, 50 Bryer Dr., Elkins Park, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $85. - Jessica Parks
