More than 20 people hurt in SEPTA bus crash

CENTER CITY More than 20 people were taken to hospitals after a SEPTA bus was struck by a car that ran a red light in Center City late Friday afternoon, police said.

About 4:49 p.m., a Route 23 bus was heading north on 11th Street when a 2011 Mazda traveling west on Vine Street crashed into the front right side of the bus, police said.

The bus jumped a curb, knocked down a traffic light, hit three parked cars, and scraped the side of a church before coming to a stop, police said. No pedestrians were injured.

The bus driver, a 57-year-old woman, suffered a possible seizure and was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital.

Police said 20 of the 30 passengers aboard were taken to hospitals but that none of the injuries was serious.

The driver of the Mazda, a 25-year-old woman, and a passenger, a 29-year-old woman, reported head and neck pain and were taken to Hahnemann.

The accident was under investigation late Friday night, police said.
