LIHEAP heating-aid grants available

Utilities are encouraging low-income customers to sign up for federal heating grants before the money runs out.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is available for families whose income is at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level, or $35,775 for a family of four. About one-third of Philadelphia residents qualify.

Philadelphia Gas Works customers can text "Grant" to 95997, or visit www.pgworks.com/LIHEAP or one of the company's customer service centers to apply. Peco has a LIHEAP hotline at 800-344-3574. New Jersey utility customers can call 800-510-3102.
