Body found under mattress in West Philly boardinghouse

The body of a woman who had been shot to death several weeks ago was found Friday under a mattress in a West Philadelphia boardinghouse, police said.

The body was discovered sometime before 7 a.m. inside the residence in the 5100 block of Spruce Street. Police did not release the name of the woman.

Homicide Capt. James Clark said the woman had been shot in the back of the head. The decomposition of her body indicated that she was killed several weeks ago. - Robert Moran
