Officer, motorist injured in Kensington crash

A police officer and another person were taken to a hospital after being involved in a vehicle accident Thursday morning in the city's Kensington section.

The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at Allegheny Avenue and Jasper Street. The officer was driving west on Allegheny with lights and siren on when he was struck by another vehicle. The officer's cruiser then crashed into a pole.

Both the officer and the other driver were taken to Temple University Hospital complaining of pain. The cause of the accident was under investigation. - Robert Moran
