Steinke to head Preservation Alliance
Paul Steinke, the former general manager of the Reading Terminal Market, will become the new executive director of the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.
Paul Steinke, the former general manager of the Reading Terminal Market, will become the new executive director of the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.
Steinke, 51, will start in June and will replace Caroline Boyce.
"As one of the nation's top two or three most historic cities, Philadelphia needs a strong voice for the preservation and re-use of our many important buildings, neighborhoods and streetscapes," Steinke said in a news release.
"As executive director, I look forward to working with community leaders and public officials to raise awareness and appreciation of our historic resources and advocate for their preservation."
After managing the popular and diverse Reading Terminal Market for 13 years, Steinke resigned in December 2014 to run for an at-large City Council seat. He lost in the Democratic primary last May.
He has also previously served as finance director for the Center City District and was the first executive director of the University City District.
He is not new to the Alliance.
"Paul has served on the Alliance Board of Directors for nearly two decades," architect Mary Werner DeNadai, chairwoman of the Alliance's board said in Tuesday's announcement. "He has been greatly instrumental in cultivating the public's interest in saving historic structures. His leadership is a natural succession from Caroline, who made extraordinary strides in her tenure."
Boyce plans to establish a consultancy for nonprofit organizations.
