A 28-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon in Wynnefield after he lost control of his vehicle while experiencing difficulty breathing, police said.

The man, identified Monday as Lavine Grimes, of South Philadelphia, was driving along the 5300 block of Parkside Avenue near the Mann Center for the Performing Arts around 4 p.m., police said, when he began having breathing problems.

Soon after, his 2010 Chevrolet Equinox spun out of control, and the vehicle struck a stone wall then flipped into a ditch.

Grimes was transported to Lankenau Medical Center in Philadelphia, where he was pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m.

Police did not disclose what may have caused him to begin to have trouble breathing.

A passenger, a 26-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized in stable condition.
