Driver, students escape burning school bus in Delaware
A driver and two students escaped from a school bus that burst into flames early Monday morning in Delaware.
Delaware State Police said the bus' engine shut down while the operator, a 41-year-old woman, was driving on Carey's Camp Road between Millsboro Highway and Phillips Hill Road in Millsboro, Sussex County.
The bus came to a stop, and the driver saw smoke and flames coming from the bus.
The operator and the two children on board, an 11-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, fled the burning bus through a rear emergency exit, police said.
They ran to a nearby house and called 911 to report the 6:45 a.m. blaze.
Authorities said the driver and the two East Millsboro Elementary School students were unharmed.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a mechanical issue with the 2004 International School Bus, police said.
