Mummers clubhouse brawl leaves 5 hurt, 1 in custody
A large fight that began inside the 2nd Street Shooters Mummers clubhouse and spread outside to the 1400 block of South Front Street left five hurt and one in custody, police said.
Five people were injured and one taken into custody early Saturday after a brawl erupted inside a Mummers clubhouse and spilled into the streets of South Philadelphia.
Two men began fighting shortly after midnight inside the 2nd Street Shooters NYB club at 1438 S. Front St., in the Pennsport area, police said.
Multiple witnesses told investigators that, as the fight escalated, security guards working the party "pushed everyone outside."
A melee then touched off on the street and spread to the surrounding area, police said.
A man, 18, was struck in the head with an unknown object and taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he received 12 staples to close a laceration.
A woman, 19, was hit once by an unknown man and taken to Methodist Hospital, where she required multiple stitches for a cut above her lip.
Two other men – aged 18 and 22 – were also treated at Methodist after unknown suspects struck them, police said.
A fifth victim, an 18-year-old man, was knocked to the ground and hit his head on the pavement. While he was lying there, a 22-year-old man allegedly stepped on his stomach.
That man was arrested and will be charged with simple assault, police said. His identity was not immediately released.
More suspects were still being sought Saturday, and police described the investigation as ongoing.
