Snow, icy mix and rain for Philly today

The worst of the cold is over, but it's still frigid Monday morning, with single-digit lows north and west and temperatures in the teens near Philadelphia and south.

There's a winter weather advisory for Philadelphia and places west from 6 a.m. Monday through 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Here are updated forecasts for snow amounts (brought them down for areas north and west):
-Southern Delaware/parts of South Jersey: Up to 1 inch
-Philly/Interstate-95/surrounding suburbs: 1 to 3 inches
-Berks, Lehigh Valley, Poconos: 2 to four inches

Snow will transition to an icy mix, then rain from southeast to northwest through the day, so southern areas will switch to rain in the afternoon. The switch will happen in the evening along I-95 (on either side of p.m. rush), so expect icy roads where they're not treated. Then eventually it transitions for areas north and west by midnight. The futher northwest you go, the bigger the ice threat for ice-covered roads and sidewalks, especially toward the Poconos.

After everyone changes to rain, there may be a lull in the rain for southern areas Tuesday morning, but then it pours in the afternoon for all. We're expecting 1 to 1.5 inches of rain. The rain could lead to some flooding, especially north and west where the ground is coldest so runoff more likely, and where it will likely snow a little more so we're looking at 1 to 2 inches of rain and some snow melt.

Extended forecast:
Monday: Afternoon snow, then rain, high of 34 degrees
Tuesday: Heavy rain, much milder, high of 56
Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a rain or snow shower possible, high of 42
Thursday/Friday: Mostly sunny, highs near 40 degrees. Then we could see some snow showers Friday night that linger into Saturday, perhaps as rain showers, as the start of the weekend looks warmer.
