Three Camden men charged in a fatal casino carjacking and kidnapping in Atlantic City last year were indicted Wednesday, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel said.
Phillip L. Byrd, 21, Eric S. Darden, 20, and Raheem D. Simmons, 18, had been charged with the murder of 28-year-old Sunil Rattu, of Old Bridge, on Sept. 18. An Atlantic County grand jury indicted the men on charges including felony murder and kidnapping.
Rattu and his girlfriend, Radha Ghetia, of Parlin, Middlesex County, were carjacked and kidnapped from a Trump Taj Mahal parking lot. He was shot twice in the head in the backseat of the car in a residential alley several blocks away. Ghetia also was shot but survived.
The couple recently received their diplomas as licensed practical nurses and were planning to take their licensing exams soon. They had gone to Atlantic City to celebrate their graduation, a relative said. - Darran Simon
