Police have identified the Delaware man who is accused of stabbing two waitresses yesterday at a Houlihan's restaurant in Newark and who bragged about his actions.
"I'm proud of what I've done. I am a . . . diabolical killer," 23-year-old Daniel Yoon said to reporters as police led him away from the scene in handcuffs.
Authorities charged Yoon, of Newark, with attempted murder, assault and possession of a deadly weapon after he stabbed one waitress and injured another during an attack that was sparked because he was tired of being rejected, police said.
Police said Yoon had made advances toward an 18-year-old waitress for more than a month. The waitress repeatedly told Yoon she was not interested.
The stabbing happened at about 6 p.m. yesterday inside the Houlihan's at the Christiana Mall at 500 Center Blvd. Yoon was a cook at the restaurant.
Police said Yoon followed the waitress into a women's restroom, where he attacked her with a steak knife. Another co-worker interrupted the attack and wrestled the knife away. That female co-worker received cuts and bruises to her hands and arms.
The restaurant remained closed.
Both women were taken to Christiana Hospital. The 18-year-old woman was listed in critical condition with stab wounds to the face, head, neck and upper body. The other woman was treated and released. Officials have not released their names.
